The new UTC will be run by Manchester Metropolitan University and specialises in energy and engineering.

UTCs are Government-funded colleges that provide 14-19 year olds with an alternative education based on vocational training.

The six-storey UTC building was constructed next to the new ‘Business Incubator’ facility and was designed as a steel frame structure with majority rain screen cladding to it’s facade and a series of non-uniform windows. Internally the facility accommodates several workshops, a lecture theatre, laboratory and teaching space for 640 students, along with £1m of specialist engineering equipment.
