This project saw an existing, derelict school building extended and refurbished in order to house a new primary school for 60 autistic pupils aged between 4 – 19 years old.
The facility caters for children and young people with high-functioning autism who need support in a learning environment specifically tailored to their needs. The school provides a much needed opportunity for autistic students to develop in line with their peers, whilst focusing on independence skills, academic learning and inclusion.
As the scheme was delivered in line with the special education needs of the children, close consideration of the services was given and an open dialogue with the National Autism Society was crucial.
